On Never Having It Easy

This is an old post from 2009, written during the days of chronic fatigue recovery for my husband, and three kids in three years and one month, for me. I found it amongst our chronic fatigue recovery blog posts and I felt it was still relevant, still important. I hope it blesses you.

I’m tempted often to complain about things being too hard. If we’re not too sick we’re too busy, too tired, too poor or too something else.

But, as Craig gently reminded me this week after we’d done our budget for the year, if things got “easy”  in this life we wouldn’t be living the life that God wants us to live, putting everything in his hands. We wouldn’t see the need.

Unfortunately, the result of living in a fallen world is that, whenever we put God first, we will be living as aliens. We will also most likely be under greater temptation to sin & greater spiritual attack.

A few verses have encouraged me to stop complaining and repent before the devil gets a foothold this week. Here they are, hope they encourage you too.

Isaiah 30:15 says,

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.

Philippians 2:14 says,

Do everything without complaining or arguing,

1 Corinthians 10:13 says,

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Hebrews 4:15 says,

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

Be blessed, remember we can never be too dependant on God, never be too needy and he will never be too powerful or too forgiving.

Be encouraged to put everything in His hands today.

If you are struggling today, you may also like the encouragement in this post Believe My god Can or this one, Stretch out Your Hand. or this one from earlier in the week If You or a Loved One are Chronically Sick Read This, Be Encouraged, You Are Not Alone.

Lots of love,

  1. I love the verse from Hebrews! Such a comfort to me. My mom rested in this promise last year when fighting a flu that nearly broke her. She mentioned the verse in a Christmas newsletter to the family and gave her testimony along with it. ❤

    • I love when families share their favourite Scriptures and the power of God in them, they become our family story. Powerful testimony. Thanks for sharing this Vivian. Lots of love L

  2. It is in the times of greatest duress and trial that God shows himself strong on our behalf. I loved your statement: “remember we can never be too dependant on God, never be too needy and he will never be too powerful or too forgiving..” Thank you for sharing.
