Proverbs 10min. Challenge (Proverbs 4)

This week before I read Proverbs Chapter 4, I’ve setting myself a challenge to write the lyrics to a ‘song that tells a story’ from it, in 10minutes. Let’s see how that goes! I am enjoying the creativity coming out of this 10 minute challenge. Nothing like a good old deadline and tiny time frame to get me moving. University for me was a long line of  assignments completed in the tiny hours, when I wasn’t working. I had over 20 hours of paid work at the time. I think I worked more than I went to uni, but I got the job done and I took myself to the U.S. skiing for 6 weeks afterwards. Of course I would recommend this to no-one ever. Unless they were looking for advice on “How to Burnout in 10 Easy Steps.”

Instead I would recommend understanding yourself,  knowing how you work and why you work that way and when. Sometimes I can be supremely ordered and organised, when I love, love, love what I’m doing. Clearly I did not love my degree, but I loved skiing enough to plan and work towards that trip!

I would also recommend having a ‘why’ for everything. For example, when I worked out the benefits of having a clean house, and finally believed that cleaning it was worthwhile, only then did I find a way to do it that suited me. (Well God gave it to me after prayer, I can’t claim it as my own idea) I divided the house into 5 minute tasks, and set myself 4 per day. Then I only ever need 5 minutes, to clean the house, just 5 minutes 4 times a day!

I also exercise that way. Maybe if our household wasn’t so full I would do things differently. I’m sure there must be different ways for different seasons. Actually I do sometimes do 20 minutes of cleaning, all at once, these days.

How do you operate? Are you like me? Or do you prefer long swathes of time stretching before you? Do you freeze when the pressure hits? What gets you moving?

Anyway I’ve been diverted. Time to set the timer!

Below is the result of the Proverbs Chapter 4, 10 minute Challenge. Enjoy, be encouraged, be blessed.

Lots of love,

L.

Proverbs Chapter 4 – Song that tells a Story.

We were walking by the sea,

The other day, my love and me,

And up ahead there was a boy and a man.

As the man walked on the sand,

With his son upon on his shoulders,

They slowed down, and they moved around the boulders.

As we passed I overheard,

From the Dad, a little word.

“Son, it matters how you go in life,

And where you place your feet,

Son, you know I want you to be wise,

My heart, for you, is hoping,

Listen, and accept now what I say,

There’s a rock to build your life on,

Where the sun shines come what may.

Number one is guard your heart,

For that is where things start,

Number two is watch your mouth;

The words you say.

Number three is fix your eyes,

On the light beyond these skies,

Number four is walk in wisdom all your days.”

And I looked at my love,

And he smiled into my eyes,

With the smile of knowing we would not forget;

The words of the wise, heard beneath those salty skies,

To the children whom we had not carried yet.

Number one is guard your heart,

For that is where things start,

Number two is watch your mouth;

The words you say.

Number three is fix your eyes,

On the light beyond these skies,

Number four is walk in wisdom all your days.
